Practical questions

Kidney tests in Sharjah: is a urine sample needed too?

A request for kidney tests may involve blood, urine or both. Before arranging collection in Sharjah, check the actual order instead of assuming one tube of blood covers every measurement. This practical check matters especially when a collection visit is planned and a separate specimen or timed collection has been requested.

Separate measurements from estimates

Creatinine may be measured in blood, and the report may use it to estimate kidney filtration, called eGFR. Other questions can require urine testing. Ask which specimens your order requires and whether any collection has timing instructions; do not replace a requested urine test with an extra blood test yourself.

Collect the right specimen in the right container

Get the laboratory’s instructions before collecting urine. Confirm the container, labelling, timing and transport arrangements for the requested test. Do not reuse household containers or assume instructions from a previous test apply. Tell the team about medicines, supplements and any difficulty following the plan so the correct next step can be agreed.

Review the pattern rather than one result

Keep earlier reports and discuss the new findings with the clinician. An estimate needs interpretation alongside the history and other relevant measurements. Do not diagnose chronic kidney disease or change medicines from a single value. If you are acutely unwell, seek assessment instead of waiting for a routine laboratory appointment.

Common questions

Does a kidney blood test replace every urine test?

No. Blood and urine measurements may answer different questions.

Can I collect urine before I receive instructions?

Wait for the laboratory’s exact specimen and container instructions.

Does one eGFR result establish a chronic diagnosis?

No. Clinical context, previous results and appropriate follow-up matter.
